iPhone 14 Pro Max review

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is the best phone money can buy with its clever Dynamic Island, powerful cameras, always-on display, and super-long battery life.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max has the upgrades I've been waiting for - and one I didn't know I needed. Yes, the always-on display is long overdue, but the biggest upgrade is Dynamic Island, which delivers notifications and live activities like music, directions, timers, and Faces ID animations.🟢

It's smart - stylish, modern, and easy to use.

I also really liked the camera's new action mode for recording videos. Other smartphones have a similar feature, but the combination of the iPhone 14 Pro Max's video quality and super-stable footage feels a bit like magic.

Also magical is the ease with which you can switch between multiple phone numbers with this flagship's eSIM feature, although some will lament the complete lack of a physical SIM card slot.

  • With the A16 Bionic chip, Apple has once again built the fastest phone in the world, but it's not really about benchmarks. Instead, it's about what this chip enables, from the always-on display to the powerful 48 MP camera and what it can do. Add to that a particularly long battery life, and you've the best iPhone you can buy, and also the best phone you can buy at all. 🟢

iPhone 14 Pro Max review: Release and price:

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is Available in stores now and launched on September 16th. The starting price is $1099 / £1199 / AU$1,899, making it one of the most expensive flagship phones ever.

The storage capacity is 128 GB at the beginning, which honestly doesn't feel very professional. However, you can upgrade to 256 GB for $1,199 (£1,309/AU$2,099). Upgrading to 512 GB costs $1,399 (£1,529/AU$2,419), and for 1 TB you'll have to pay $1,599 (£1,749/AU$2,769).

Now that's innovative. Not only did Apple shrink the iPhone's notch and move it down, but it also found a way to make that area useful and even fun. The Dynamic Island not only houses the TrueDepth camera but also acts as a mini dashboard that provides access to the information you need, no matter what app you're in.

For example, if you open Apple Music or Spotify and then swipe back to the home screen, you'll see album art on the left and a mini waveform animation on the right. If you press and hold the dynamic island, a larger window opens showing the track's progress and playback controls. You can also just press once to launch the app.

iPhone 14 Pro Max review: Design:

First, that the notch has been replaced with a pill-shaped notch (more on the dynamic island below), and second, that the camera hump is even larger.

All three camera lenses on the back of the iPhone 14 Pro Max are larger, as is the flash, so this area takes up a lot of space.

Also, this phone is slightly heavier and thicker than its predecessor: the iPhone 14 Pro Max measures 6.33 x 3.05 x 0.31 inches and weighs 8.47 ounces.

iPhone 14 Pro Max test: Long-lasting display, high screen quality:

Apple definitely catches up to Android phones with the iPhone 14 Pro Max's new always-on display, but Apple's implementation offers a more robust experience - if you take the time to set it up.

Since the iPhone 14 Pro Max's refresh rate can get down to 1 Hz, Apple designed its AOD to essentially mirror the lock screen (in color), but at a much lower brightness. This means you can still see your wallpaper, lock screen widgets like weather, calendar and activity ring, and notifications.

The always-on display is smart enough that it turns off when you put the iPhone 14 Pro Max in your pocket or put it upside down on the table. Personally, I appreciate the always-on display because it simply shows the time without having to turn the display all the way on, no matter what time of day it's.

iPhone 14 Pro Max test: Excellent battery life and long charging:

Thanks in part to the iPhone 14 Pro Max's more efficient chip, the iPhone 14 Pro Max did quite well in terms of endurance. After charging to nearly 90% and using the phone from 1-6 p.m.
